What is a Neck lift?
A neck lift, also known as a platysmaplasty or cervicoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to tighten the skin on the neck and remove excess fat. This procedure aims to improve the appearance of a sagging or ageing neck and give the neck a more youthful and toned contour.
Over time, the skin on the neck can sag, resulting in a so-called “turkey neck” or double chin. These changes can make the face look older overall and often contrast with an otherwise youthful face.
As we age, the skin loses its elasticity and tone, which is particularly visible on the neck. The most common reasons why people consider a neck lift include:

- Sagging skin on the neck, resulting in a wrinkled or drooping appearance.
- Excess fat that accumulates under the chin, causing a double chin.
- Excess skin that can develop after significant weight loss.
- Increased wrinkling and a generally aged appearance of the neck.
Stress, gravity, environmental factors and heredity are some of the causes of the loss of youthful facial features and neck. Because their upper facial area still looks good, some people believe they are not yet ready for a full facelift. However, many patients notice sagging jowls, a double chin (often referred to as a “turkey flap”) and excessive skin folds on the neck.
In cases where the neck area does not harmonize with the upper face, a neck lift can be a useful procedure.
A forehead lift to correct drooping or heavily furrowed foreheads, fat grafting to plump lips and cheeks and soften wrinkles, or eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aged eyes are rejuvenation treatments that can be performed in conjunction with a neck lift.
What is not possible with a Neck lifting
Although a neck lift can tighten the skin and muscles in the neck area and remove excess fat, it cannot prevent the skin from sagging again over time.
It also cannot improve the texture or appearance of the skin's surface, such as that caused by sun damage.
For these aspects, complementary treatments such as laser therapy or chemical peels could be considered.
Only surgery is an option for a neck lift; non-surgical rejuvenation therapies cannot achieve the same effects, but
they can help delay the need for a neck lift and improve its results.
